Luciano Caratori, from the Fundación Torcuato Di Tella, participated in a panel in which the trends, challenges and opportunities to achieve a just energy transition for the Latin American region were presented.
He explained the situation in Argentina and shared some of the results obtained from the work carried out by the FTDT in the framework of the project. He commented that “delaying the transition too long means a loss of economy and human lives” and, in this sense, he referred to the 4 key vectors for the transition: 1) Reducing energy intensity; 2) Electrifying most of the energy consumption; 3) Decarbonising electricity generation through renewable energy or other GHG-free sources; 4) Substituting those consumptions that we have not been able to electrify.
He reviewed the main challenges for the transitions, the strengths of the region and the opportunities (both local and global), concluding that “the decade we are going through could be the decade of climate competitiveness for the region”.The recording of the webinar can be found at the following link (available only in Spanish): https://youtu.be/sB7qB7LjZKs
